Art Director - Creative Services

Successful candidates will produce art layouts by developing art concepts; providing work direction to staff. The Art Director will liaise with customers and other Ross departments to help achieve their creative goals. Lead design into multiple existing and emerging verticals including but not limited to Broadcast Television, Ross Virtual Solutions, and Ross Sports Solutions. Candidates for consideration will be responsible for the execution of and/or participation in Ross Creative Services activities, including but not limited to:

 
Administrative
  • Meetings and conference calls as required to scope, complete, or otherwise to facilitate successful completion of assigned projects as they relate to the job.
  • Work with the Project Coordinator to assign the proper personnel to each job.
  • Accomplishes Creative Services artwork requirements by orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching employees.
  • Meets art department work standards by following production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving operational problems; identifying work process improvements.
  • Obtains client approval by presenting final layouts, story boards, and illustrations; responding to client commentary and requests.
 
Design:
  • Formulates art concepts by supervising workers engaged in executing layout designs for art work and copy to be presented by visual communications media.
  • Produces illustrative material by assigning layout design concept to artists and photographers; directing development of design concepts into art layouts.
  • Creates packages that conform to standardized workflows outlined by the Director of Creative Services.
 
Animation:
  • Knowledge of the XPression animation toolset used to create dynamic real-time graphics.
  • Knowledge of the Frontier/Unreal animation toolset used to create dynamic real-time graphics.
  • Knowledge of rendered animation from 3rd-party applications in combination with real-time animation to enhance the end-product.
 
Documentation:
  • Works with Ross team members to create style and operational guides for end users.
  • May be required to create project style-guides of assets.
 
On-site Implementation:
  • May assist Lead Designer in occasional visits to customers’ sites to implement and integrate graphics packages.
 
Job Requirements:
 
Knowledge/Education/Training:
  • Post-secondary degree or trade school diploma
  • 5-10  years of Graphic Design experience
  • Knowledge of basic graphic design principles
  • Knowledge of broadcast creation software (Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Nuke, 3DS Max, Cinema 4D, Maya, etc.)
  • Knowledge of broadcast graphics workflows
  • Knowledge of broadcast production & IT workflows
  • Knowledge of sports graphics workflows
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint

Experience:
  • Sports venue experience or equivalent
  • Broadcast production experience (studio or remote) is desirable
  • Basic computer programming experience in VB, SQL, XSLT, and/or JAVA is not required but is a plus
 
Other:
  • Willing to travel on a project-by-project basis, approximately 20% of the time.
  • Valid passport
  • Valid driver’s license
 
Physical Demands:
  • Occasional requirement to set-up equipment – involves lifting up to 50 lbs, reaching, bending, stooping, etc.
